The West Side Is Growing, and There's More to Love
New places to explore, more neighbourhood conveniences, and a little local excitement. Here's what's happening at The Crossings in West Lethbridge.
There's something special about watching a neighbourhood grow.
The coffee runs that become part of your morning routine. The familiar faces at the hockey rink. The quick grocery stops that turn into running into someone you know.
It's those little everyday moments that make a neighbourhood feel like home.
And if you've spent any time in West Lethbridge lately, you've probably noticed that things are changing.
The Crossings is growing again — and there's quite a bit to look forward to.
So, what's actually coming to The Crossings?
Let's talk about one of the biggest developments happening on the west side.
A major mixed-use project called Core Crossing represents approximately $300 million in planned investment, bringing new hospitality, shopping, residential development, and seniors housing to West Lethbridge.
The project broke ground in May 2026, with development planned in phases through 2030.
And while we don't know every business that will eventually open its doors, there are already some exciting announcements.
A new hotel (and a familiar drive-thru favourite!)
West Lethbridge is getting something it hasn't had before: a full-service hotel.
The announced development includes a 120-room hotel with an extended-stay component, along with a new Wendy's restaurant.
For anyone who has family visiting from out of town, this could mean another convenient place for guests to stay on the west side.
And let's be real — another quick dinner option after hockey practice probably won't hurt either!
Construction was originally scheduled to begin in 2026, with opening dates still subject to confirmation.
More restaurants, shopping, and everyday conveniences
This might be the part I'm most curious about.
Sherwood Developments is planning more than 100,000 square feet of commercial and mixed-use space across approximately 11 acres.
That means more room for shops, restaurants, services, and businesses to become part of the West Lethbridge community.
The Crossings already has familiar spots for grabbing dinner, picking up groceries, or meeting a friend.
But imagine having even more of those everyday conveniences close to home.
A new coffee stop? A favourite lunch spot? Somewhere to pop into on a Saturday afternoon?
We'll have to wait and see which businesses officially join the neighbourhood, but there's plenty of room for new local favourites.
More neighbours are coming, too
Beyond the shopping and restaurants, there's also a major residential component.
Cedar Ridge Homes has plans for more than 450 new residences, including a mix of housing styles.
Construction on the residential portion began in May 2026.
It's another sign of how West Lethbridge continues to evolve, creating additional housing choices for people at different stages of life.
A new seniors living community
One of the quieter, but equally important, additions is a planned independent-living community from Green Acres Foundation.
The proposed development would provide affordable apartment options for seniors, with convenient access to recreation, shopping, healthcare services, and other neighbourhood amenities.
It's a thoughtful addition to an area that's increasingly becoming a place where people can live through different chapters of life.
Why people love living near The Crossings
Now, here's where the real Homebody conversation starts.
Because a neighbourhood isn't just about what's being built.
It's about what life actually looks like when you live there.
And West Lethbridge has plenty of those little everyday conveniences that make a difference.
Think afternoons at the park, evenings at the hockey rink, swimming lessons, library visits, grocery runs, and meeting friends for dinner.
The Crossings is already home to schools, recreation facilities, a public library, and a growing collection of shops and services.
And nearby communities like Copperwood offer access to parks, pathways, and the kind of neighbourhood amenities that make settling into a routine a little easier.
For people thinking about buying a home in Lethbridge, these are the things worth considering alongside the bedrooms, bathrooms, and square footage.
Because the home you choose is also connected to the life you'll live outside its front door.
Thinking about moving to Copperwood or West Lethbridge?
Whether you're moving to Lethbridge from another city, buying your first home, or simply looking for a little more room, choosing the right neighbourhood is a big part of finding the right fit.
Copperwood is one of several West Lethbridge communities worth exploring if you want convenient access to recreation, shopping, schools, and outdoor spaces.
And with new development continuing around The Crossings, there will be even more to discover in the years ahead.
Of course, proposed developments and construction timelines can change, so it's always worth checking the latest announcements.
But there's something exciting about seeing new possibilities take shape in a community you already love.
